Programming games with Pixel art feels like the easiest approach for a developer that is not too deep into art in general. While there is a ton to know about pixel art it still feels like I could handle it with a little more time ^^

Here are some tools and a few assets I kept in mind.

Tools to create Assets

  • Aseprite lets you create 2D animations for videogames. From sprites, to pixel-art, retro style graphics, and whatever you like about the 8-bit and 16-bit era.
  • PyxelEdit is a pixel art editor designed to make it fun and easy to make tilesets, levels and animations.
  • Piskel is a free online editor for animated sprites & pixel art.

Learning Resources

  • Lospec is a home for digitally restrictive art. We create online tools for people creating pixel art and other restrictive digital art.
  • MiniBoss collection of all the pixel art tutorials made by Pedro.
  • Pixel Art 101 YouTube Playlist
  • Pixel Art Class YouTube Playlist

Tools to create tilemaps

  • Tiled is a 2D level editor that helps you develop the content of your game.
  • LDtk is a modern 2D level editor with a strong focus on user-friendliness

Lovely tilesets (I own)
